Duties and responsibilities

  • Conducting physical inspections of businesses on a routine basis or where there is reasonable suspicion of infringements of consumer rights;
  • Explain the purpose of the inspections and outline areas that may be of specific concern pertaining consumer rights;
  • Collect information to evaluate whether the business is in compliance and write reports on details of the inspection;
  • Examine information which may be relevant to the inspection and enforcement of consumer rights;
  • Produce materials (e.g., records, receipts) the inspectors believe may be relevant to the inspection processes;
  • Issue fines where there is evidence of infringement of consumer rights.

 

Qualifications, experience and competencies

  • Minimum is a Higher National diploma or degree in Economics; Law, Police and Security Studies or Business related field or equivalent from a recognized institution;
  • At least 5 years’ experience involving investigation of economic crimes or consumer Infringements;
  • Proficiency in computer applications;
  • Self-starter with ability to work under pressure and beyond stipulated hours.
  • Unquestinable integrity and commitment to duty.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Results oriented
  • Good report writing
